I never had dogs when I was growing up. My parents were more cat people. When I moved out of the house as an adult, I was given a puppy as a present and I have been a dog person ever since. I have not been without a canine companion since. Most of my dogs were adopted from local shelters and I still believe that is a great place to find a family friend. But a few years ago I decided I wanted to try showing a dog, so an AKC breed was in my future.
I came across the Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs while at a dog show in Seattle near my home. I immediately fell in love with this big, lovable breed. I did my research, though, as they are not a dog for everyone. They have a stubborn streak and training is a definite must. But I was up for it. I visited a couple breeders, got all my questions answered, met some Swissys and filled out a puppy application.
Shortly after, I received the call that my application had been chosen for a puppy and Freya (Ch. Ramsgate's Absinthe) joined my family. I am so in love with this breed and am so excited to be able to share my love of these wonderful dogs with others.
